Saratoga Resort and Spa – Sunday Drive
Periodically we like to go to Saratoga, Wyoming to the Saratoga Resort. We have always planned it so we are there for a late lunch/early dinner. Arriving around 2:30, 3:00 PM, we order from the Pub menu and enjoy a relaxing meal. The Saratoga Resort is our closest microbrewery, so my husband always enjoys a beer while we’re there.
The drive from Rawlins to Saratoga includes 20 miles on Interstate 80. Once we leave I80 at Walcott Junction, we are treated to views of Elk Mountain and the Medicine Bow National Forest.
Saratoga itself is a charming little town on the banks of the North Platte River. There are some nice shops and eateries in the small downtown area. A main attraction is the developed hot springs that bubble into the Hobo Pool, free and open to the public year round. In the same complex, they have an outdoor public swimming pool, warmed by the hot springs and open in summer.
Mid-afternoon Meal at the Saratoga Resort
Last Sunday we headed over to Saratoga for our lunch/supper. We were delighted to find that in addition to the pub menu they had a menu of dinner specials. From the special menu, I ordered a smoked steak salad, loaded with Gorgonzola and dressed with Roasted Shallot Vinaigrette. The smoked steak was delicious, and the whole salad was an excellent meal. My husband ordered a chicken avocado sandwich with sweet potato fries from the pub menu. He also enjoyed a pint of their sunshine ale.
The last time we were at the pub for dinner was around St Patrick’s Day. At the time they had this poor fellow festooned in green beads and junk. It was nice to see him looking respectable again on this visit.
They probably decorate this handsome fellow at holidays, but I just never noticed it.
I just want to point out here that these two gentlemen have the same nose. That is all.
