Favorite Snacks – Whole Food Choices
I love to cook, but much of the time my snacks are whole foods that don’t require any cooking or prep. I eat 2-3 snacks each day. These are some of my favorite snacks.
Favorite Snacks – Healthy Whole Foods
My number 1 favorite snack food is a whole Granny Smith apple. I’ve mentioned before how much I love these apples. Some might say that teachers eating apples are too cliche, but I won’t let that stop me from enjoying this healthy food. Apples are rich in antioxidants and fiber. A serving is one whole apple. Easy-peasy. Keeping the doctor away, one day at a time.
My number 2 favorite snack food is whole raw almonds. Almonds are loaded with healthy fats, fiber, and protein. A serving is 1/4 cup. This super-portable snack doesn’t suffer from being tossed in a zip-lock, jammed in my purse, and hauled around all day until it finally gets eaten.
My next two favorite snacks tie for 3rd place. Raw green beans are crunchy, tasty, and loaded with vitamins and minerals that my be lost if cooked. I wash and trim a handful (about 24 beans), and then put them in a zip-lock bag for a nice snack at work. Yes, I’ll have beans with that.
Raw sunflower seeds also make a satisfying snack. Sunflower seeds provide Vitamin E, Selenium, and Magnesium. 1/4 cup makes a serving. Like almonds, sunflower seeds travel well in a zip-lock bag in my purse.
There are probably some amazing whole food snacks that I just haven’t tried yet. Do you have your favorites? Let me know what they are. Maybe I’ll add something new into my snack rotation.
